The Third International Symposium on von Hippel-Lindau will be held in Paris, September 16-18. The programme will include three plenary lectures: Inherited kidney carcinomas by Berton Zbar; Ethical problems in genetics by Josué Feingold, Paris; and Tumoral angiogenesis pending acceptance by a collaborator of Judah Folkman, Boston. Mini-symposia will be held on various aspects of clinical management of VHL, and genetic research. Attendees are expected from Japan to Poland. |

Nous serons trè heureux et honorés de vous accueillir lors du troisième Symposium international sur la maladie de von Hippel-Lindau qui aura lieu à Paris du 16 au 18 septembre 1998, dans le cadre prestigieux du Palais du Luxembourg, à proximité immédiate du Quartier Latin et de la Sorbonne, en plein coeur de Paris.
Après Fribourg en Bresgau en 1994 et Honolulu en 1996, cette réunion sera l'occasion de faire la synthèse des derniers progrès fondamentaux et de leurs applications médicales, 10 ans après la première localisation du gène VHL.

Dear Friends, Dear Colleagues
It is a great honor and pleasure for us to host the Third Internationa Von Hippel-Lindau Disease Symposium, in Paris on September 16-18, 1998. The Congress will be held in the prestigious Palais du Luxembourg, very near the Quartier Latin and the Sorbonne, the heart of Paris university life.
After Freibourg im Breisgau in 1994, Honolulu in 1996, and 10 years after the first localization of the VHL gene, this meeting will be a unique opportunity to summarize the most recent advances in research and clinical management.
We are looking forward to meeting you in Paris in September.

Le Palais du Lusembourg est situé en plein centre de Paris, à 30 minutes des aéroports de Roissy (par le RER ligne B) et Orly (Orlyval-RER B). La gare RER/Station de métro Luxembourg se trouve à 250 m de l'entrée. Une pièce d'identité est indispensable pour obtenir le badge d'accès. |
Salle Médicis of Palais du Luxembourg, 15 rue de Vaugirard, 75006 Paris. The Palais du Luxembourg is located in the centre of Paris, 30 minutes from both Roissy (by RER B) and Orly Airports (by Orlyval-RER B). The Luxembourg station (RER and subway) is 250 meters from the site of the Symposium. An identity card or passport is required to obtain the access badge. |

| Les communications sur les thèmes du Symposium sont les bienvenues et seront examinées par le Comité Scientifique International qui notifiera l'acceptation et le type de présentation avant le 15 juillet. |
Submitted communications on Symposium themes are encouraged and will be examined by the International Scientific Committee. Acceptance and mode of presentation will be communicated before July 15. |

Languages

| Conformément à la législation française, les langues officielles du Congrè sont le français et l'anglais. Par courtoisie vis à vis les Collègues anglophones, nous recommendons cependant aux participants désirant présenter un travail en français de prévoir leurs diapositives ou leur poster en anglais. |
According to French law, the official languages of the Symposium are French and English. Out of courtesy for English speaking Colleagues, we recommend that French participants use English for slides or posters. |

Registration

| Le nombre des participants est limité à 240 et il est conseillé de s'inscrire très rapidement. Les frais d'inscription incluent l'accès au Symposium, le libre des résumés, les déjeuners de travail, le cocktail de bienvenue et la visite au Sénat. |
The number of participants is limited to 240 and it is highly recommended to register as soon as possible. Registration fees include the Symposium, proceedings book, lunches, welcome cocktail and visit to the Senate. For accompanying persons, fees include the welcome cocktail and the visit of the Senate. |

Social programme
|
| Un cocktail de bienvenue sera offert à l'ensemble de participants dans le péristyle de la Sorbonne, Université historique de Paris le 16 septembre au soir. Le dîner de gala (optionnel) aura lieu le jeudi 17 septembre dans le magnifique cadre des Salons de Boffrand de la Présidence du Sénat. Pour les accompagnants, trois excursions guidées d'une demi-journée (payantes) sont proposées:visite de Paris, visite de la maison du peintre Claude Monet à Giverny et visite du Château de Versailles. Une visite du Sénat pourra être organisée par petits groupes. |
A welcome cocktail will be organized on Wednesday, September 16, 1998, for all participants in the Peristyle of the Sorbonne, the world-renowned historical Paris University. The Gala dinner (optional) will be held on Thursday 17 in the marvelous Salons de Boffrand of the Présidence du Sénat. Three guided visits are proposed to the accompanying persons: visit of Paris, visit of Monet's House at Giverny, and visit of the Château de Versailles. The visit of the Senate can be organized by small groups. |

Hotel accommodation
|
| Des chambres d'hôtel à tarif préférentiel ont été réservées par l'organisation. Les réservations d'hôtel ne pourront être garanties que si le formulaire d'inscription accompagné des arrhes parviennent à DIFTOURS avant le 31 mai 1998. En raison du grand nombre de Congrès à Paris en septembre, le Secrétariat ne sera plus en mesure de garantir de réservations dans l'un des hôtels indiqués après cette date. |
A number of rooms at preferential prices have been booked for the Symposium. Hotel reservation through the Congress Agency will be guaranteed only if the registration form, together with the corresponding hotel deposit has reached DIFTOURS Agency before May 31, 1998. After that date, the secretariat will no longer be able to guarantee reservation in one of the hotels mentioned in the accommodation form, due to the large number of Congresses in Paris. |

Any cancellation must be made in writing (letter or FAX) to DIFTOURS Agency. Cancellations will be accepted until August 15, 1998, with a refund of all fees except for an administrative charge of FF 500. No refund will be made for cancellation made after August 15, 1998. |
