Hotel space has been reserved for the VHL meeting at the Marriott Burlington.  Attendees should make their own reservations by calling the Marriott at 1 (800) 228-9290 or (781) 229-6565.  The VHL conference rate is $79 per night for up to four people in one room, as long as reservations are made by October 10.  CEU credits will be available for genetic counselors and nurses

 

It's a beautiful time of year in New England.  Please join us for the conference, enjoy the travel in foliage season, and perhaps plan to take some time to enjoy Boston in the fall.

 

Presentations will feature physicians and researchers from the three Clinical Care Centers in Boston: Brigham & Women's, Lahey Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and including Children's Hospital, Joslin Diabetes Center, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Research Institute.

 

KIDNEY SEGMENT:  Dr. John Libertino, CEO of Lahey Clinic, will talk about recent advances in diagnosis and treatment of renal cell carcinoma, including 3-D imaging and a very new renal cell cancer vaccine, and transplantation.  Dr. Peter Mueller of the Massachusetts General Hospital will tell us about radio frequency ablation (RFA), a less-invasive method of disabling a kidney tumor.

 

NEUROLOGY SEGMENT: How tumors of the eye, brain, and spinal cord develop, advances in diagnosis and treatment.

 

INSPIRATIONAL SONG: by Deb Hogan, from her new CD

 

RESEARCH SEGMENT: research advances, implications for prevention, drug discovery, and treatment, and clinical trials on controlling angiogenesis in VHL. Panelists are:

  • Dr. William Kaelin, Dana Farber Cancer Research Center
  • Dr. Othon Iliopoulos, Mass. General Hospital
  • Dr. Peter Wen, Brigham & Women's Hospital, head of the clinical trial
