A Regional Meeting of the VHL Family Alliance will be held Saturday, April 17, 2004, 10 am - 3 pm. Registration includes lunch.

The meeting will be held in the Community Conference Room at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews. Our host, Darlene Byrd, is the manager of The Health Library at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews, an outstanding resource center for patients and families.

Presenters will include:

Dr. Daniel George, Urologist, of Duke University, who is opening a second site this summer for his clinical trial of Novartis PTK-787, an angiogenesis inhibitor that has been shown to be effective with kidney cancer, and is being tested to determine its effectiveness with the brain, spinal, and eye tumors of VHL. In addition to talking about the trial, Dr. George will describe the VHL Clinical Care Center at Duke.

Dr. Stephen Tatter, Neurosurgeon, of Wake Forest University, who will speak about advances in neurosurgery, including stereotactic radiosurgery of brain and spinal lesions, and other services of the VHL Clinical Care Center at Wake Forest.

Joyce W. Graff, Executive Director of the VHL Family Alliance, will be available to talk about the Alliance, new news in VHL research, and news from our global affiliates.

Darlene Byrd, Manager, will tell us about The Health Library and the resources it holds for families living with a chronic illness like VHL.

The Program will include VHL Connections - an opportunity for us just plain folks to share experiences and stories.

Conference Registration is $25 per person in advance, $30 at the door. Registration includes lunch.
