The meeting will be held in the Parish Hall at St. John's Episcopal Church, Memphis, Tennessee. The Parish Hall is the long brick building on Greer Street, next to the Church building.

Topics:

  • Getting the best outcome for brain and spinal surgery
  • Taking good care of the kidneys
  • Coordinating care among medical specialists
  • VHL Research in Brazil and what it means to you
  • Prospects for a Cure!
  • and lots of time to talk and share what's happening with you!
Presenters will include:

Dr. Jose Claudio Rocha, a fellow at St. Jude's Hospital, on leave from his post as geneticist at the Ludwig Institute, Sao Paolo, Brazil. Dr. Rocha will share his fascinating experiences with VHL research in Brazil and Memphis, research which is expected to lead to better methods of therapy and prevention.

Selvi Palaniappan, M.S., genetic counselor from our new Clinical Care Center at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, will be on hand to talk about genetic counseling and DNA testing.

Dr. Chris Friedrich, University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, and a colleague from University of Arkansas Medical Center, Little Rock, will talk about coordinating care at their Centers.

Joyce W. Graff, Executive Director of the VHL Family Alliance, will be available to talk about the Alliance, new news in VHL research, and news from our global affiliates, especially Japan and China which she visited in May and June.

The Program will include VHL Mid-South Connections, with Terry and Rick Murphy, and lots of others -- an opportunity for us just plain folks to share experiences and stories.

Thanks to a generous donation from one of our members, expenses for this meeting are subsidized and registration is very inexpensive. Please come! Registration (is now closed) $5 per person in advance, $10 on-site includes lunch. Please phone or e-mail to let us know you're coming so that we know how much food to prepare.
