Dr. Michael Gorin of the Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) explains the eye lesions of VHL, and how best to monitor and manage them.

Dr. Gorin argues for careful monitoring, and gentle treatment of even very small lesions in order to keep them from becoming larger and more difficult to treat. Small lesions are most successfully treated; larger ones are difficult to manage without damaging the vision.

The exception to this rule is tumors of the optic nerve, which should be left alone as long as possible. For these lesions in particular, we really need a systemic (drug) treatment.
