Rachel Giles, Ph.D.

Dr. Rachel Giles

Dr. Rachel Giles was born into a family affected by a familial cancer syndrome (neurofibromatosis) and consequently decided to study genetics and immunology at Harvard and UC Berkeley. She moved her husband and cat to the Netherlands in 1992 to complete training in Clinical Genetics at the University of Leiden. After clinical and fundamental post-doctoral experience, she was awarded a faculty position in 2006 as Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Oncology at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Her lab focuses on the mechanisms underlying VHL disease. To this end they have generated zebra fish that model VHL disease, and engage in research which is currently supported by the VHL Family Alliance.
