On October 16, 2015, in Metro Chicago, the VHL Alliance will take time to honor the force behind creating the Clinical Care Center at the University of Chicago, Sarah Nielsen, MS, CGC, who is on the VHL Alliance Board of Directors. She is a genetic counselor in the Cancer Risk Program at the University of Chicago and established the Endocrine Genetics Clinic as well as the VHL Comprehensive Clinical Care Center at the University of Chicago.
During graduate school in Pittsburgh, she worked as a clinical researcher for the Department of Endocrine Surgery, where her focus was VHL type 2A. Her findings regarding genotype-phenotype correlations in two regional VHL 2A kindreds were recently published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics and Familial Cancer. She is also a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
Jan Capinegro is a former member of the VHLA Board of Directors and an Executive with The Pampered Chef, a company that specializes in the distribution of quality kitchen tools. Jan oversees global Consultant Services for Pampered Chef’s 50,000 Independent Contractors. Scott Capinegro is a member of the Chicago Board of Trade and President of Barrington Commodities Brokers.
Jan and Scott enjoy spending their free time with friends and family, including their daughter Gina, son-in-law Scott and their beautiful granddaughters. Jan and Scott’s son Tony was diagnosed with a VHL mutation at age 15. Tony is in medical sales and happily married to Melissa, they are expecting their first child in April. The Capinegro family and friends are ardent supporters of the VHLA which has been a valuable resource for support, education and research.
Please plan to join us in honoring these prominent individuals dedicated to education, research, and awareness of von Hippel-Lindau.
The goal of this event is to raise additional money to add to the VHLA Research Program.
